Mothers of under-fives who are married or cohabiting are twice as likely to be in employment as single mothers, according to the Office for National Statistics. It found that 62 per cent of mothers, married or cohabiting, with children aged under five had a full- or part-time job in 2007, compared with 37 per cent of single mothers.
