The new framework was unveiled last week by CACHE, which has run a scaled-down version of the Early Years National Training Organisation since last April. From February Modern Apprentices will also have 20 hours of guided learning on their employment rights and responsibilities through a module developed by the EYNTO.
CACHE chief executive Richard Dorrance said the key skills component of the scheme needed updating and added, 'We felt that at the same time we should include the technical certificate to ensure that Modern Apprentices are given a well-rounded training.'
The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority has so far approved four technical certificates for the framework. Foundation Modern Apprentices will study either the City and Guilds Level 2 Progression Award in Early Years Care and Education or the new CACHE Certificate in Early Years Practice. Advanced Modern Apprentices will complete the BTec National Certificate in Early Years or the CACHE Diploma in Early Years Practice.
