Dr Kirsteen Davidson Kelly is the new chief executive officer of the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS), and will take up the role from January 2022.
The NYOS offers a complete orchestral experience to students aged between 8 and 25, through orchestras, jazz bands, training ensembles and an ever-expanding outreach programme, as well as workshops throughout communities across Scotland.
Davidson Kelly has been the creative learning director at the Scottish Chamber Orchestra since 2014, and has directed an extensive programme of events and projects across Scotland throughout that time.
Davidson Kelly will lead the NYOS through a new phase of the organisation, launching new residential courses and presenting live concerts for the first time since 2019, joined by a line-up of internationally renowned conductors and guest artists.
NYOS senior management team said ‘NYOS is a very special and unique organisation, one which we have had the privilege to lead for the past six months. We are delighted to be handing over to Kirsteen who, we know, will continue to develop quality learning and performance opportunities for young musicians across Scotland.’
Davidson Kelly said: ‘I am delighted to be joining NYOS, an organisation with a fantastic history and reputation for nurturing Scotland’s young musicians. I look forward with great excitement to celebrating NYOS’ return to live music-making and to developing accessible, inclusive programmes for the young musicians of the future.’
