NDNA outreach scheme success

A National Day Nurseries Association scheme has succeeded in recruiting volunteer Community Childcare Champions as part of a project with the DCSF.

The scheme started earlier this year, training volunteers to promote thevalue of high-quality childcare to hard-to-reach groups not using formalchildcare.

The NDNA said feedback suggested that the champions had helped dispelsome of the myths around formal childcare and daycare providers andimproved parents' confidence and understanding.

The NDNA recruited and trained volunteers in five multi-agency networksin local authority areas who shared and promoted with interested partiesthe value of childcare and the financial help available.

Parent Community Childcare Champions shared information with otherfamilies about the options available to parents via activities, including children's centre open days and job centre drop-in sessions, and at the school gate.
