The grants are part of the NOF's 85m Building Neighbourhood Nurseries programme. NOF chair Baroness Jill Pitkeathley said, 'These grants demonstrate the fund's commitment to creating community-led, quality nursery provision that directly benefits children and their families.'
The First Steps Nursery in the Twerton district of Bath has been given nearly 112,000 and, with additional funds from registered charity the Pine Tree Trust, it is planning a new 60-place facility. The existing nursery will remain with 35 places. The nursery, designated an Early Excellence Centre last year, also plans to enhance its integrated services for families.
Centre head Pauline Hatherill said, 'We expect 250 families to be using our centre each week. The nursery places we can now make available to families in Twerton are desperately needed, as this is an area of extreme disadvantage.'
