Under the Bookstart scheme every child receives three packs of free books at key stages of their development. Packs are distributed to parents of children aged seven months, 18 months and three years through health visitors, libraries and nurseries.
Emily Butt, Bookstart communications manager, said, 'Our overall aim is not just to increase awareness and comprehension of the Bookstart offering, but also to deliver the message that sharing books with young children can be a magical and rewarding experience.'
The online promotional campaign features advertisements on sites such as www.mumsnet.com and Practicalparenting.co.uk which link to a new website, www.youbabybookmagic.org.uk.
Parents can find advice on books to read with children, book reviews and message boards. The radio advertising campaign will run on over 30 stations nationwide, until 16 April.
Bookstart is run by the charity Booktrust, and receives funding from Sure Start and the DfES. Parents wishing to receive a Bookstart pack should speak to their health visitor or contact their local library. For information visit www.bookstart.co.uk.
