Chief executive of the CWDC Jane Haywood said, 'Work with our partners has shown the critical importance of leadership in delivering the best outcomes for children, young people and families, regardless of their current position and the setting in which they work. It is extremely important that we place a strong focus on the development and support of leaders across the entire children's workforce.'

Michael Leadbetter has been appointed CWDC chair with effect from 1 April.

He has been a director of social services at two local authorities for 17 years.
