Speaking at the Nursery World conference on 25 March, Pauline Jones, Early Years National Programme Manager at the CWDC, said that the organisation is trying to streamline the number of early years qualifications, which currently stands at over 300. She said that the new qualification would bring clarity to the early years workforce and help the sector meet the Government target that all staff be qualified to level 3 by 2015.
Ms Jones added, 'We believe we have the opportunity to overcome many of the issues that have been in the sector for some time around qualifications. However, introducing change at level 3 is extremely complex because there are a lot of vested interests and awarding bodies to get through.'
Other speakers at the conference included Vicky Hutchin of National Strategies, Liz Elsom of Ofsted and Jan Dubiel of the QCA. For full coverage of the conference, see Analysis, page 10.
