New parents: ‘NHS is here for you’ if your child is unwell

Paediatricians, health visitors and GPs have launched a ‘fridge poster’ signposting new parents where to turn to for help with concerns about their babies’ health.

The guidance, intended for parents of babies less than three months old, reassures parents that the NHS is still providing safe care during the pandemic.

It uses a traffic light system to direct parents to the appropriate action to take when their baby presents with signs of illness, ranging from a temperature to seizures and vomiting.

The ‘fridge’ poster', which signposts when and where parents should seek help. has been produced by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH); the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM – part of the RCPCH), the Institute of Health Visiting (iHV), and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
