Nursery closed as police carry out investigation

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested as police investigate a nursery in Wiltshire.

Little Angels Nursery in Calne has been closed by Ofsted while an investigation is carried out.

Wiltshire Police said in a statement, ‘We can confirm that police are conducting an investigation into allegations relating to Little Angels Nursery in Calne.

‘The nursery has been closed by Ofsted and staff from the nursery are in the process of informing all parents of the closure.’

Police said that the woman was arrested on Saturday 16 August and taken to nearby Melksham police station. She has since been released on bail and enquiries continue.

Owner Rachel Everitt confirmed that a member of her staff had been arrested and called the news ‘a great big shock’.

The nursery, which was registered in 2009, was rated good in its most recent Ofsted inspection in May. It is registered to provide care for 78 children.

A staff team of nine adults including the owner, all of whom hold relevant qualifications up to level 3, work directly with the children.

The nursery’s most recent Ofsted report said that all members of staff ‘have undergone appropriate vetting to check their suitability to work with children. Staff show strong knowledge and awareness of the policies and procedures for safeguarding children's welfare and are well trained to deal with safeguarding concerns.’

Any parents who have concerns regarding the matter have been advised to contact Social Services.
