Nursery undaunted as roof blown off

Children have returned to a Hampshire nursery whose roof was blown off amid hailstones and gale-force winds.

Fierce storms on 10 March caused the roof to fall in on FawleyIndependent Day Nursery in Holbury, Southampton, while staff andchildren were inside. The toddler room's roof buckled and staffimmediately led the 35 children out of the building.

Nursery manager Lisa Wood said, 'It was very stormy that day. There wasthunder and lightening and even hailstones. At 12.50 on Monday we heardan almighty bang. The roof had been lifted up by the wind and then fellinto the toddler room.

'At the same time the lights went out and we immediately evacuated tothe office area to get the children's boots and coats and then to ourevacuation point at the next-door leisure centre. Our priority was toget the children out.'
