TALENT SPOTTING
Nurseries across the country have been saying goodbye to pre-school children leaving to start school in September.
Treetops Nursery in Milking Bank, Dudley organised a graduation ceremony for children, for which they dressed in caps and gowns, while a Pre-schools Got Talent contest was held at Montagu Square Day Nursery in St Neots, Cambridgeshire (pictured). Children performed cheerleading routines, break dancing, and sung in front of a panel of judges.
SUSPENDED IN TIME
Staff and children from Sawston Nursery in Cambridge buried a time capsule under the foundations of the new extension to their purpose-built setting. The time capsule contains information about the current children and staff, details of the nursery's Diamond Jubilee and Olympic celebrations and a copy of Nursery World magazine.
Nursery manager Sue Brown said, 'When the capsule is retrieved, who knows what best practice for early years will be?'
MEADOW ADVENTURE
Children from Ashbridge Independent School and Nursery in Preston, Lancashire enjoyed a walk through the setting's wild flower meadow. Staff at the nursery mowed a path through the meadow for the children, but they went off route to explore.
HOME-GROWN HARVEST
Pre-school children from Corner House Day Nursery in West Ealing, London, harvested their home-grown crop of potatoes, radishes, strawberries, cucumbers and spring onions, which they later enjoyed eating.
DINOSUARS ON DISPLAY
Children from Blue House Day Nursery and Pre-School in Croydon visited the dinosaurs on display in Crystal Palace Park. The outing was sparked by the children's interest in them. Back at the nursery, staff made a 3-D display to encourage further talk about the visit.
BUGGY BUDDIES ARTISTS
Children from Icknield Infant and Nursery School in Letchworth, Hertfordshire enjoyed a trip to Butterfly World near St Albans after winning an art competition.
The competition marked the launch of Hertfordshire County Council's Buggy Buddies scheme in primary schools. The scheme started in PVI nurseries in 2010.
Children were asked to submit a piece of art work inspired by the family of 'Buggy Buddies', which includes ants, caterpillars, spiders, ladybirds, bees and butterflies.
