Happy 50th
Westwards Nursery in Loughborough, Leicestershire, invited parents, children and staff, past and present, to a party to celebrate the setting's 50th anniversary. The special event was also attended by the original owner who opened the nursery in 1961.
Visit by the dentist
Early Years Childcare's Greenwich nursery invited a local dentist and dental nurse to teach the children in the Badgers family room about the importance of good dental hygiene. All the children received certificates and information packs with stickers and other dental hygiene-related goodies.
Toddle for a mile
Busy Bees and Busy Bears Children's Day Nurseries in Durham held a mile-long toddle which was walked by more than 300 families and raised nearly £6,000 for the local children's hospital ward. Nursery children accompanied the staff to present a cheque to the hospital.
Vegetable harvest
Children at Early Years Childcare in Crawley, West Sussex, have been busy harvesting the vegetables they planted in the nursery garden last spring. They nourished the vegetables every day using the rainwater collected in the nursery's water butt. The fresh produce, including carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, runner beans and beetroot, will be cooked by the nursery's chef and served in the children's meals.
A bumper year
Staff and children from Lindum Day Nursery in Oundle, Northamptonshire, have been celebrating a very successful year. In February the setting was awarded outstanding by Ofsted. This achievement was followed by going from four to five stars in a hygiene rating scheme and winning Northamptonshire's Gold Heartbeat award, given to companies who show commitment to children and adults by providing healthier food choices.
A week of fun
Kidsunlimited in Regent's Place, London celebrated its tenth anniversary with a week of activities, including a balloon race, baking and an art competition judged by the chain's regional director for the South, Sinead Johnson, and ending with a summer barbeque birthday party.
A day at the museum
Children at ABC Nursery in Whitehaven, Cumbria, were so impressed with the dinosaur exhibition they went to see at the local Beacon Museum that they recreated their own dinosaur exhibit back at the nursery.
Fire, fire
Children from Wisdom Kids Nursery in Newham, London, have been learning about fire and fire safety as part of their 'people who help us' topic.
Prize club
Tickton Pre-School and Play Pals out-ofschool club in Beverley, North Humberside, were delighted to not only be judged outstanding by Ofsted, but win first prize in a local competition in recognition of the activities they organised to promote National Communication Week during the summer. These included a large-scale messy markmaking day, a water day and lunchtime cooking sessions.
To the rescue
Northamptonshire Childminding Association held a fun day at Irchester Country Park in Wellingborough for childminders, the children they care for and their families. The children got the opportunity to try on the uniforms of ambulance staff who came to the event to explain what they do.
