MAKING MOTHER'S DAY

Early years settings across the country celebrated Mother's Day on 18 March. Tendercare Nursery in West Croydon, Surrey (below) invited the children's mothers and other female relatives in to take part in activities. Younger children at Grena Road Children's Nursery and Pre-School in Richmond started their own pretend florist shop.

ON THE BALL

Children at Stepping Stones Day Nursery in Nottingham showed their support for Nottingham Rugby Club and its bid to get into the premiership next season, by holding a rugby-themed day. The children, who all dressed as rugby players, were joined in their activities by some of the players from the senior rugby squad as well as the club's mascot Archie the Stag.

CHITTER CHATTER

Children at Weyhill Montessori Nursery in Haslemere, Surrey, took part in I CAN's Chatterbox Challenge and raised £550 for the charity.

COLOURFUL VEG

The children cared for by Somerset childminder Kara Hewitt, who runs Kara's Childcare, enjoyed learning about vegetables as part of exploring the environment thanks to the green activity poster in Nursery World, the third in a series of six posters looking at colour. The children also planted potatoes and enjoyed a picnic.

BRING BACK THE BEES

Hopscotch Children's Nurseries, which has five settings in Brighton and Hove, Sussex, gave away 100 packets of sunflower seeds to all the nursery children as part of its continuing campaign to protect bees. Operations director Jo Halling said, 'The children are planting the seeds in their garden, flowerpot or window box to encourage bees back into our environment.'

OUTSTANDING

The Magic Tree Nursery at Belmont Grosvenor School near Harrogate, North Yorkshire, has been judged as outstanding by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). Nursery manager Beth Dunwoody said, 'The team has worked extremely hard over the last few years to ensure that the learning environments and interaction with children are of a high standard, which in turn enables children to achieve their full potential.'
