Outdoor provision gets TV airing

Outdoor living and risk-taking at a Cornwall forest school are to come under the spotlight on the BBC's 'Countryfile' programme this week.

The programme will look at the activities and ethos of Dimson Day Nursery in Gunnislake, which seeks to avoid mollycoddling children and has a robust outdoor agenda.

Founder and owner of the nursery Patricia French said, 'We are really happy to be on the "Countryfile" programme. It gives us the chance to get over that it's not necessary to wrap children in cotton wool, which can be detrimental to them, and to let them join in. Getting wet is healthy for children.'

Ms French's daughter wrote to the makers of the BBC show telling them about the nursery, which was set up by her mother 18 years ago when she struggled to find a suitable nursery that offered outdoor play. Ms French believes that children learn and develop best when outdoors.
