This is a unique initiative created to encourage individuals, schools and groups to plant trees during the official planting season, marking Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. There is a Free Trees for Schools and Communities Scheme thanks to the Woodland Trust, in addition to a promise from the Queen’s Green Canopy to get in touch with as many state schools as possible to arrange free trees through its partner organisations. Closely linked to the project, a new composition entitled Green Canopy by Major Simon Haw is available for students and teachers to download and listen to from householddivision.org.uk.
Run by Eden Project Communities, schools are invited to download a free resource pack to help organise a Big Jubilee Lunch. Teaching resources for Key Stages 1–4 help teach pupils about the significance of Platinum Jubilee and get them engaged ahead of the June celebrations. The resources could be incorporated into musical events or series of lessons.
