The programme of free-to-attend CPD sessions at the Music & Drama Education Expo 2023 is now live. Taking place at the Business Design Centre in London on 23 and 24 February, the Expo is Europe’s largest conference and exhibition for music and drama educators.
Following a competitive call for papers process, the sessions were selected by heads of content Harriet Richards (music) and Sarah Lambie (drama) supported by a voluntary advisory board including Georgina Murphy Clifford, Nate Holder, Patrick Johns, Emma Hutchinson, and Jenetta Hurst.
Taking place across the Keynote Theatre, Seminar Theatre, The Workshop, The Space, and – back for 2023 – the Sharing Lab, the music workshops and seminars have been selected to support classroom teachers, instrumental teachers, hub leaders, administrators, specialists, non-specialists, and those working in SEND settings, from the early years to Key Stage 5. The CPD sessions run alongside a vibrant exhibition of leading music education organisations, charities, publishers, exam boards, and manufacturers.
Highlights across the two-day programme include ‘The secondary music teacher’s survival guide’ with Candice Wood, ‘Instrumental tuition, neurodiversity, and challenging behaviour: a practical guide’ with Ben Sellers and Jess Fisher, ‘The art of rap in the secondary music classroom’ with Francis Winston, ‘Musical doodling: the secret to having fun with composition’ with Paul Harris, and ‘Trauma informed practice for musical inclusion’ with Emily Foulkes.
Head of music content Harriet Richards said: ‘I’m so excited to be able to reveal the programme at last! The call for papers left us spoilt for choice – I could have programmed a week’s worth of brilliant sessions, but I managed to whittle them down with the help of our truly expert advisory board. This is one of Expo’s most dynamic programmes yet, and we hope it provides inspiration, information, and motivation to the 21st-century music educator.'
An accompanying programme of sessions in the Exhibitor Showcase Theatre, live performances, and fireside chats will be published in the coming months. More CPD sessions will be added to the main programme each week as they are confirmed.
