Public Consultation on Glasgow closures

A public consultation on plans by Glasgow City Council to close 12 nurseries and 13 schools ended on 18 March, marked by protests across the city.

Scotland's largest teaching union, the EIS, warned that it would lead to a reduction in the quality of pre-five education and a drop in nursery teachers. The plans would affect more than 2,000 children and 100 teachers, who are to be re-deployed to other settings (News, 28 January). Letters advising consultees of the outcome for each school and nursery will be sent out on 27 April.
