The Council for Awards in Children's Care and Education (CACHE) offers a variety of management units, including the following ones within its Level 4 NVQ in early years care and education programme:

* Carrying out management responsibilities in child health, safety and protection.

* Managing the curriculum.

* Managing the observation and assessment of children's development and behaviour.

* Managing relationships with parents.

* Managing activities to meet requirements.

* Contributing to improvements at work.

* Managing the use of physical resources.

* Managing the performance of teams and individuals.

* Assisting the organisation to develop and implement policies.

* Promoting services.

It also offers units covering Advanced practice and Enhancing quality and quality control. In addition CACHE offers professional development management units within its other courses, including management in childcare and education settings, management of early years services, management of early years settings and management of early years practice.

Derby Tertiary College offers:

* The NVQ 4 in early years care and education. The course is for those in management positions or a senior role in a childcare or education setting. It provides a route to higher education and will also raise the professional standing of candidates. Two strands are available - the advanced practitioner and management.

The Montessori Centre International is holding seminars on:

The National Day Nurseries (NDNA) runs:

The National Early Years Network runs training workshops in early years management on:

* Staff motivation and performance: Service implications for managers and deputies of childcare provision or staff in supervisory positions. This workshop will explore the process of monitoring and evaluating the performance of the staff team. It will also focus on measuring quality and consider the appraisal process.

* Understanding and developing management techniques for managers and supervisory staff in any early years setting, especially new and junior managers. This workshop will help practitioners develop new skills to manage everyday situations. Participants will develop management techniques and examine communication strategies.

* Inspections: Understanding the process, for managers, teachers and workers providing daycare. Participants will consider the legal framework and process of inspection, learn how to plan for inspection, explore the purpose and structure of an action plan and understand the process of continuing improvement and developing good practice.

* Effective teamwork for managers and practitioners in all early years settings. Participants will learn how to develop their problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.

* Running a successful family drop-in centre, for managers and staff working in family centres or nurseries. The workshop will look at the core principles and practical requirements involved in setting up a drop-in centre.

* Developing successful inter-agency partnerships in early years work, for managers who represent their agency on inter-agency partnerships.
