Scottish Childminding Week takes place from 1 to 8 June and, according to the Scottish Childminding Association's information officer, Alice McGrath, many of its 6,500 members will be taking part.

The Scottish association has sent packs containing ideas for activities to the 250 childminding groups across Scotland. Many will be backing a 'sponsored toddle' in aid of children's charity Barnardo's, while also raising funds to support their own activities.

In Aberdeenshire, childminders will be holding a Jubilee Fun Day to include a fancy dress competition, story telling and a puppet show. Other events are being planned by Perth and Kinross Council in partnership with childminders, nurseries and out-of-school clubs.

The East Lothian Childcare Partnership is holding a childcare conference on 15 June at the Port Seton community centre, which is open to all childcare workers. The conference costs 10 for individuals and 15 for organisations, and there will be limited creche facilities.

Barrhead Out of School Care in East Renfrewshire is planning a fun day on 27 June, while the KIDZ@PLAY out of school club in Aberdeenshire is holding a parents' evening at the club. Children are being asked to design a poster to say why they like going to the club, with a prize for the best design.
