Position: Chef at Little Acorns Day Nursery in Gomersal, West Yorkshire
- How did you feel about being awarded Little Acorns' Chef of the Year and the Kirklees Healthy Choice Award?
I was really excited. Winning Chef of the Year made me feel really appreciated, particularly as it is voted for by parents.
- What are the benefits of working at the nursery?
You get to see the children grow up and to teach them about healthy eating. We recently held a graduation for the children leaving to go to school, where parents thanked me for encouraging their children to eat fruit.
- How long have you worked as a chef?
I've been at the nursery for 20 years. When I first started the role it was for an hour and a half a day, cooking frozen foods for the children. Now I work a full day and prepare meals from scratch. I often attend courses to improve my practice and in September I will be going on a course to help with menu planning.
