Spotlight on ... Ruth Latchford, EYP and family worker

Careers & Training
Name: Ruth Latchford

Position: EYP and family worker at Snowberry Children's Centre in Leytonstone, London

- What challenges have you experienced returning to the setting after a year's maternity leave?

There have been quite a few changes in staff and in the amount of paperwork, which has been reduced. The biggest difference has been with the children, seeing how far they've come in a year and how their needs have changed.

- How have you benefited from attaining Early Years Professional Status?

I did the short pathway as I already had a degree in a different subject. Doing my EYPS has helped me validate my practice and enabled me to support other staff at the setting. It also allowed me to take on more of a management role.

- What are your future plans?

I'm always pushing forward, and the next logical step for me would be to train as a teacher. Ideally I would like to continue to work at the children's centre in this new role.
