Spotlight on ... Sharon Beattie, Principal, Dromore Nursery School

Name: Sharon Beattie

Position: Principal at Dromore Nursery School in County Down, Northern Ireland

- How did you come to be a finalist in the Teaching Awards 2010 under the category of Northern Ireland's Nursery Headteacher of the Year?

I was nominated by parents for my commitment to making the nursery a community resource. I have been entered for the awards in the past, in 2007 when I was a runner-up and in 2008 when I received a distinction.

- Why is the nursery school so successful?

It's definitely a team effort. By working together we have achieved Outstanding in all areas in our inspection by the Education and Training Inspectorate, and our Investors in People silver award.

- Where are the awards taking place?

The awards are on 8 June at the Waterfront in Belfast. The winner receives a 'Plato' award - a small trophy. We will also be taking some of the children with us to the daytime event.
