Spotlight on ... Tracy Shailer, Owner of Busy Bees Baby and Toddler Group in St Mellons, Cardiff

Careers & Training
Name: Tracy Shailer

- How did you come to be invited to the Cardiff Volunteer dinner on 7 July?

I was invited to the Dinner at Cardiff Castle by Communities First, a Welsh Assembly Government flagship programme, which helps to fund our baby and toddler group. I took two staff, our secretary and promotions person, to the event which celebrated the work of 100 volunteers in Cardiff and the surrounding areas.

- What happened on the night?

The dinner was hosted by Welsh radio and TV presenter Jason Mohammad and attended by the lord mayor of Cardiff.

- Why did you decide to set up the baby and toddler group?

I have vast experience working with children and used to run a playgroup before moving to St Mellons. I set up the weekly baby and toddler group after having my daughter and wanting to share my expertise with the community. We are really lucky as the group is well resourced and on average, 30 children attend each session.
