Position: Foster carer in Bedfordshire

Why did you decide to become a foster carer?
Because I loved being a mother and wanted more children, but felt I was being selfish having more when there are children who do not get looked after properly. I enjoyed looking after my own children and I thought I could do more!
How did it feel to find out you had won The Fostering Network's Outstanding Contribution to Foster Care Award?
You don't think about the impact, so it's lovely to be recognised. It was quite a surprise. I didn't know anything about the award until I got a phone call. Because you just do it, you don't realise how much people appreciate it.
What are your plans for the future?
I've got two children (in my care) now that are 11 and 12, and when they reach adulthood I think we'll retire. I think I'll be too old; I'm turning 61 this year. Even though I will retire I will still keep in touch with the children.
