Long-term planning
Long-term planning for the construction area ensures that children are able to access the tools, materials and adult support needed to develop skills and concepts, working towards early learning goals, over a period of time.
Plans should take into account the range of developmental stages within the group and provision should enable children to make progress from their own starting point and to pursue individual interests. Both the indoor and outdoor areas should be considered.
Possible learning experiences
Although children will have the opportunity for learning experiences across the Foundation Stage curriculum, the construction area will probably be particularly effective in promoting the areas of knowledge and understanding of the world (designing and making), creative development (imagina- tion) and mathematical understanding (shape, space and measures).
