State school students invited to enter composer competition

Composition Awards
The competition, run by ORA Singers, is entering its third year and is looking for young choral composers aged 18 or under from UK non-fee paying state schools.

ORA Singers has opened applications for its 2022 Composer Competition. The award aims to provide educational mentoring opportunities to young composers who would not otherwise have access to them; nurture and develop a new generation of choral composers.

10 finalists will be selected from the competition to receive 10 hours of one-to-one tuition and support with industry-leading composers. These finalists will then see their completed piece be performed in concert by ORA Singers to a live audience and panel of experts, who will then decide upon the award winners.

ORA Singers is also expanding its existing apprentice scheme in 2022, accommodating up to 40 young composers from UK state-schools. Apprentices will be encouraged to write their own small choral work with the guidance of workshop leaders, and 8 hours of compositional masterclasses.

Competition entries must be no longer than 10 minutes, and must be the original work of the entrants.

Applications close on 7 February at 12pm. Entry to the competition entails a completed personal statement and application form, and an entry competition or an excerpt of entry competition on a PDF or mp3 file.
