Evidence collector: If you are a student, you may wish to carry out the following activity that can encourage children to use language for thinking. Remember to consult with your supervisor and/or the parents if necessary.

* Activity: Pack a suitcase for teddy's holiday.

* Resources: Small bag or suitcase, selection of clothes, a teddy or similar cuddly toy.

Working with an individual child or small group of children, ask children if they can select some clothes that teddy will need to take on holiday. Ask the children to explain to teddy why he needs the clothes that they have chosen for him.

Teddy can be used as a stooge to 'label' each item so that the children hear the names of each article of clothing.
