The association has also suggested that childminders mark Scottish Childminding Week (14 to 21 June) by raising money for Barnardo's with a 'sponsored toddle', taking part in a 'penny mile challenge' for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland, or organising an event in support of the Child Accident Prevention Trust.
Other ideas include a 'healthy snacks' teddy bears picnic to promote the Scottish Executive's healthy eating scheme, or getting local childminding groups together to recruit more childminders or let parents know about the childcare available in their area.
The Scottish Out of School Clubs Network is finalising its plans for a week of events to celebrate after-school care, which also takes place in June.
South of the border, the summer's annual celebration of childcare, known as National Childcare Month last year, has been renamed National Sure Start Month to include early education, childcare, health and family support services. The month is sponsored by the Government's new Sure Start Unit.
National Day Nurseries Week, 1 to 8 June, is organised by the National Day Nurseries Association. It is followed by Pre-School Playweek (Pre-School Learning Alliance), 7 to 13 June, National Childcare Week (Daycare Trust), 9 to 15 June, National Childminding Week (National Childminding Association), 14 to 21 June, Kids' Clubs Week (Kids' Clubs Network), 23 to 30 June. Log on to www.nationalsurestartmonth.com for details.
A Scottish Childminding Week information pack is available from May. For details of how to get involved, send a large SAE to Louise Buchanan at Head Office, Scottish Childminding Association, Suite 3, 7 Melville Terrace, Stirling FK8 2ND. Details of sponsorship activities can be viewed on the charities' websites.
At the time of going to press the Scottish Independent Nurseries Association and the Scottish Pre-School Play Association do not have any plans to organise specific events.
