The big picture: Tinsel time

Children at Willows Day Nursery at Sutton Hospital have been
preparing for Christmas with a brand new box of festive decorations for
sensory play.

Eliza Tutaan was among the four children taken into Sutton town centre to buy Christmas wrapping paper, baubles and tinsel after parents made donations.

The decorations were put in a new heuristic play box for all the children to help themselves to back at the nursery while Christmas music played in the background.

Nursery manager Caroline Thomas said, 'It's so important that they experience these new textures, smells and feelings. There are things they've never seen before because it's their first Christmas, like balls with lights in and tinsel, so they could really enjoy it.'

'It's the first time we've ever done it and it's been very successful. We put up a display for parents about what we'd done and we had a great response to that. We'd definitely do it again. It's always going to be all new for babies so there'll be a different reaction every time.'
