Tower hamlets council shortlisted for a Beacon award

Tower hamlets council in London has been shortlisted for a Beacon award for its work in preventing and tackling child poverty. The council's strategy to address child poverty includes removing barriers to work by offering parents childcare options and supporting them in their search for employment, investing in long-term training options in basic skills, improving education and mitigating the effects of poverty to make sure young people have access to cultural, leisure and sporting activities. The winners of the Beacon awards will be announced in March.
