Training to help nurseries make the most of the outdoors

Learning though Landscapes has launched a new scheme for London nurseries to help them enhance their outdoor environments through workshops and funding.
The John Laing School Grounds Awards scheme provides early years practitioners with training, workshops, expert advice and funding to support them in developing their nursery’s outdoor environment.

The workshops, open to staff from all London settings at a discounted price, will cover exemplary practice and explain how practitioners can engage with the community, as well as provide tried and tested tips and ‘step-by-step’ project guidance. The workshops will take place in schools across London during March.

Learning through Landscapes is offering the first 20 nurseries or schools that apply for a place on the workshops a free annual membership. The first ten nurseries will also receive a free Learning through Landscapes advisory visit to their grounds, where a local professional visits a setting’s outdoor space and advises them on how it can be developed.

All nurseries and schools participating in the scheme will be entitled to apply for funding, available later on in the year.

Learning through Landscape’s executive director Juno Hollyhock, said, ‘This scheme is designed to provide nurseries and schools in London with the inspiration and support required to enhance their outdoor spaces to positively promote learning and play. In the current financial climate budgets may be limited, so the workshops will also emphasise the fact that vast funds are not essential in making big improvements to your grounds.’
