A woman has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a child in 2022 who suffered a ‘medical episode’ at nursery.

Nursery World reported in May last year that Greater Manchester Police had been called to Tiny Toes Children’s Day Nursery in Cheadle, Stockport, after a child there suffered a ‘medical episode’.

The eight-month-old girl was taken to hospital where she sadly died the same day (Monday 9 May 2022).

At the time, detectives investigating the death arrested two women on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. They were bailed in May 2022, pending further investigation.

A woman, Kate Roughly, age 36, has now been charged with ‘unlawful act manslaughter’.

According to Greater Manchester Police, Roughly appeared at Tameside Magistrates on Tuesday 15 August. She has been bailed ahead of an appearance at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday 19 September.

Tiny Toes Children’s Day Nursery was temporarily closed after the child’s death and its registration suspended by Ofsted.

The provider has now closed the nursery.
