The charity’s setting, YMCA Nursery at the Village, will provide care for 92 children from birth.

It will be YMCA’s 79th childcare setting. The charity operates nurseries and pre-schools under a number of different branches.

The new setting, based on the ground floor of the YMCA’s new Community and Activity Village, will be managed by YMCA Newark and Sherwood, which is dedicated to improving long-term healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.

The Village, YMCA’s flagship project in Newark, will offer families wellbeing, exercise, work and hospitality benefits including a community café, as well as sporting activities such as climbing, dancing and bike skills and a strength and conditioning gym.

Catherine Shotton, assistant operations manager for early years and childcare at YMCA Newark and Sherwood, said ‘The YMCA ethos is centred around offering children and young people a place to belong, contribute and thrive and the nursery will be the starting point in a child’s journey to building fundamental skills and values that will set them up for life. Our child-centric approach puts children first, supports them to find their passions, and builds an environment that encourages and nurtures everything that is unique and special about them.’
