Editor's view - it's going to be a busy year

We're here to help as the run-up to the new Early Years Foundation Stage in September 2012 begins.

All of the team at Nursery World are very excited to be publishing this issue of the magazine as a special EYFS Guide.

Time is already racing by since the revised EYFS was released at the end of March, and early years settings don't have long to prepare and put everything in place by September when the new framework must start.

It is easy to look at the revised EYFS and assume that not much has changed. Yet on closer inspection, there is a lot to take into account.

Some of the early years sector's top experts have analysed each area of learning, comparing the new and old early learning goals, and looking at the implications for practice.

We've got the best advice on aspects such as Development Matters, the Progress Check at Two, working with parents, assessment and supporting children with English as an additional language.

You'll find a useful summary of the changes to the Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements, along with a list of training courses for both practice and safeguarding and welfare. There's also a handy checklist of where to find all the major documents, plus books and DVDs to help you with the new framework.

This issue is certainly one to keep as the deadline for implementation nears. And anyone who subscribes to Nursery World before 31 May will receive a copy as part of their subscription (www.haysubs.com/nweyfs2).

With Professor Cathy Nutbrown's final report on early years training and qualifications still to come, as well as the new early years inspection system from Ofsted, we are all in for a busy year!
