Editor's View - Policy announcements are a long time coming

In my last Editor's View, I started by saying that there was still no sign of government announcements about the Nutbrown Review and the Childcare Commission. Two weeks on - and we're still waiting.

However, while the inter-Coalition wrangling about tax breaks and the Childcare Commission looks set to continue, the signs are that we may well hear something on Nutbrown this week (but don't blame me if we don't!).

Opposition to relaxation of staff:child ratios has become more vocal, with an online petition launched by childminder Penny Webb, and Lincolnshire Montessori pledging to parents that it will keep the existing ratios.

Research from mumsnet and others shows that parents are very against staff looking after greater numbers of young children, as well, so we await the proposed policy changes with huge interest.
