The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted children’s need to move, explore and express themselves but also the child health inequalities that can come with poverty and cramped inner-city living. This masterclass will reflect on the current crisis in child health and the need for early years settings to prioritise children’s health and physical development through health promotion and physical play.
Opening the masterclass, on Saturday 6 February from 9.45-11.45am – ‘Child health and well-being: lessons past, present and future’ – will be child health expert Dr Ronny Cheung, who will look at health inequalities in young children before and after COVID-19.
Among the speakers joining him is health promotion expert Dr Jackie Musgrave, of the Open University, who will outline strategies for promoting healthy eating and physical exercise among young children, particularly now that the Government is paying greater heed to the problem of childhood obesity. Outdoor expert Julie Mountain will also be speaking.
