The big picture - Art school makes masks for hospitals

Staff and students at London Metropolitan University have sewn nearly 500 face masks in the past week for use in maternity wards, where midwives, obstetricians and cleaners are lacking protective equipment amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The masks have been made under NHS guidelines by staff and students at the Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design, and their families and friends, and have so far been given to a number of hospitals and a homeless shelter.
