A Recipe for Bedtime

By Peter Bently and Sarah Massini (Hodder Children's Books, hardback, £11.99)

'Baby, baby soft and sweet, Almost good enough to eat! It's night-night time so come with me, and hear my bedtime recipe.' That recipe includes snuggling, counting toes, raspberries on the tummy, milk and a light sprinkling of kisses.

This book deserves to become a bedtime classic. The characters - both baby and his little animal friends - are sweet, the rhyme soothing and the routine reassuring, including not just the practicalities of clothes off, pyjamas on, but the other bedtime essentials of love and games.

Children will love to hear this story at nursery, but it is definitely a book to be recommended to parents.
