Counting Sheep by Kathryn Cave and Chris Riddell

Frances Lincoln, paperback, £6.99

Tom can't sleep and mum's had enough. If he can't sleep then he should count sheep, she says. But the seventh sheep vanishes through the bedroom cupboard and takes Tom with him into a world of 12 wolves, 23 pythons 36 goats, 45 pirates....and finally 97 Bombay tigers. But all ends in peacefulness and a good night's sleep.

Cave and Riddell are a great combination, creating both rhyming text and magical landscapes packed with detail.
