Exploring ADHD - An ethnography of disorder in early childhood

By Simon Bailey (Routledge, 22.99, ISBN 9780415525824)

The author's area of research is in ethnography and Michel Foucault's notions of power and discourse. In line with this, he applies qualitative research to explore ADHD as a cultural phenomenon.

The aim is to provide a new understanding of what is the most commonly diagnosed psychiatric childhood condition in the world today. By examining diagnostic case studies, new insights are provided on how ADHD can be approached in the context of both the family and education. Perhaps the most fascinating section is that which presents a new gender analysis of ADHD.
