I really enjoyed this informative book. It provides sound advice on building good relationships with parents and practical strategies to identify and meet individual children's needs. Key points are highlighted at the end of each chapter to enable further discussion and useful photocopiable resources are provided. The book emphasises the fact that 'good practice for children with additional needs is good practice for all children', and there are some useful scenarios to explore and an observation framework.
I particularly enjoyed Chapter 3, 'Sharing the learning journey with parents'. Practitioners are urged to continually reflect on observations and plan strategies together, with ideas on how to encourage parental involvement. Language development, behaviour, social communication, able and talented children and medical diagnosis are also well covered.
