Another traditional tale provides the basis for Jessica Souhami's latest book. Versions of the Uncle Remus story of Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby can be found all over North and South America, south and west Africa, even in a Jakata tale from India.
In this west African version, Souhami uses humour and brilliantly coloured collage illustrations to relate the story of Hare, who is too lazy to help the other animals search for water, then tricks them out of the spring water they have found. Furious, the animals plan their revenge with a sticky doll trap. But Hare is able to outwit them once more.
