At this time of year, I would normally turn to themes such as optimism and anticipation for what the year ahead might hold.

However, given the turbulent past two weeks I have experienced I feel compelled to explore an entirely different theme altogether.

Headteachers, school leaders and teachers up and down the country will have been through the mill during the past two weeks. The build-up to the time of year when A level and GCSE results are published is always a stressful one and this year has been the most challenging experience for me since I became a head two years ago.
