How can we diminish the impact of disadvantage for our most disadvantaged pupils and their families? What is working on the ground in schools across the country when it comes to the Pupil Premium? And how does Ofsted go about judging our work in this crucial area?

The 16th annual SecEd and Headteacher Update Pupil Premium Conference: Ensuring Successful Outcomes will seek to answer these questions and many more.

With 11 practical workshops and two keynote sessions, the event will help you to evaluate your work, hear about tried and tested approaches, and discuss how we can tackle the consequences of disadvantage.

The one-day event will showcase the work of primary and secondary schools, while also hearing from experts in behaviour, supporting vulnerable children, SEND, mental health and many more areas.

Our keynote sessions are not to be missed. The first from Matt Bromley offers a three-point plan to diminish the impact of disadvantage in your school and includes a focus on quality first teaching, adaptive learning and additional interventions as well as ideas for building cultural capital and designing an effective curriculum for Pupil Premium learners.

The second gleans insights from Paul Ainsworth, the education director at Infinity Academies Trust and the 35 (and counting) Ofsted inspections he has experienced in order to understand inspectors’ Pupil Premium expectations.

Paul will offer his advice, tips and insights from these 35 inspections, including what kind of questions Ofsted asks about your Pupil Premium work and how we can be prepared for their visit.

Our expert-led workshops, meanwhile, will focus on ideas, interventions and strategies that have been road-tested and which can be adopted and adapted for your classrooms, schools, and trusts. The workshops are:

  • Pupil Premium and beyond: Practical PP strategies and their impact
  • This much we know: Five 'best bets' for Pupil Premium spending
  • Using professional learning to drive Pupil Premium impact and progress
  • From CPD to Ofsted: A four-year journey to Pupil Premium success
  • Managing the 5% brilliantly: Avoiding the road of blame and shame
  • Early help and Pupil Premium teaching strategies
  • Decoding behaviour: Seeing past the masks of our vulnerable learners
  • Why you should take your Pupil Premium learners outdoors
  • Tutoring for Pupil Premium students: Secrets to success
  • Vulnerability, safeguarding and the Pupil Premium

This event is designed for anyone involved in the planning and delivery of Pupil Premium in primary or secondary schools, including Pupil Premium coordinators, headteachers and senior leaders, middle leaders, SENCOs, pastoral and safeguarding leads and others.
